Forest Sunset

Sunset – or all conditioned phenomena are transitory

Forest Sunset

A loverly walk through the forest yesterday and managed to take this photo before the sun made its inevitable transition beyond the horizon.   A reminder that all things are transitory and clinging to the view that “things don’t change” gives rise to unsatisfactoriness i.e. wrong view as the antithesis of the eightfold path.  This reminded me of one of the few mentions of cosmology (only a handful of leaves …)  in the suttas, in this case in the numbered sayings (7s) about the seven suns which describe, many hundreds of thousands of years hence, the sun baking the earth (red giant).  So even those things we take to be permanent, in the long term, are not so permanent as we think.
